Additional delays in the certification of the GE-Honda HF120 engine, two of which will power the HondaJet, have caused further setbacks in the certification schedule of the much-anticipated light jet. A statement from Honda Aircraft Company said “GE Honda Aero Engines is conducting important tests and anticipates HF120 engine type certification in the fourth quarter of this year (2013).”
This is not the first time the engine certification has postponed the HondaJet program. And a series of delays for various reasons have now doubled the original certification schedule. When Honda Aircraft Company was first formed in 2006, hopes were for certification to be signed off in 2010. This most recent delay pushes the target for HondaJet certification back to late 2014.
A company spokesman said a comprehensive update on the program, including recent achievements and progress made, will be made at the company’s press briefing at EBACE in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 20.
