A husband and wife were killed along with their teenage son in the crash of a Beechcraft Bonanza in the wee hours of Monday morning. According to news reports, the family left Tradewind Airport in Amarillo, Texas, around 2:24 p.m., stopped in Lubbock and continued on to an airport near Dallas. The Bonanza stopped in Lubbock again on the return trip, landing around 9:24 p.m. and departing at 11:50 for the final leg to Amarillo.
The 48-year-old pilot, identified as William Capt, was in touch with ATC and missed the approach into Tradewind Airport, diverting for an approach into the larger Rick Husband International Airport in Amarillo. The Bonanza dropped off radar sometime around 1 a.m. and wasn’t located until after 7 a.m. when fog lifted enough to launch a search helicopter.
Wreckage was scattered across a field and into a lakebed. Capt and his wife Robin Capt were killed, as well as the couple’s 19-year-old son William Capt II. Officials reported weather in the area as dense, low fog between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.
