Mooney Auctioning First New Production Acclaim Type S

Auction to benefit new Mooney museum.

Mooney Aircraft is celebrating its comeback to the industry with an unusual promotion. The Kerrville, Texas-based company has announced an online auction called “First to Fly” to sell the first Mooney Acclaim Type S produced on the recently modernized production line.

The auction kicked off on April 4, during the Sun ‘n Fun show in Lakeland, Florida, and will close on July 11. However, in order to bid you must register by June 30 by clicking the “First to Fly” tab on the Mooney website. The proceeds from the auction will go toward the new Mooney History Museum to be located at the headquarters in Kerrville. No date for the opening of the museum has been set as of yet, but Mooney International is already working with the Mooney Aircraft Pilots Association (MAPA) to develop the content for the museum.

With a top cruise speed of 242 knots, the Mooney Acclaim Type S is the fastest single-engine piston airplane on the market. Like many of its competitors, it features integrated Garmin avionics, in this case the G1000, a twin-turbocharged Continental Gold Standard TSIO-550G engine and leather interior. Mooney says the price for the Acclaim Type S will be somewhere around $700,000.

“There has been such enormous excitement around Mooney’s rebirth, we wanted to do something special to honor the commitment to the Mooney brand,” said Jerry Chen, Mooney’s new CEO. “This is a great way to give everyone a chance to purchase an historic airplane, the first commemorative Mooney under the new ownership.”
