Sun ‘n Fun Cancels Seaplane Splash-In

High water levels make operations unsafe.

If you’re planning on heading to Sun ‘n Fun in your seaplane to participate in the Seabird Splash-In, you will not like this story. The annual event, which takes place at Lake Agnes, located on the Fantasy of Flight property in Polk City, Florida, has been canceled.

The event, which was scheduled for April 22 through 24, was scrapped because of excessive rain in the area. Sun ‘n Fun said the water level at Lake Agnes is more than two feet above normal, rendering the dock and ramp at Fantasy of Flight basically unusable.

The elevated water level also hides potential hazards and makes the approach to shore longer and shallower. “Though we sincerely regret having to make this decision, we always put safety first and foremost,” Sun ‘n Fun president and CEO John Leenhouts said.

As a result of the Splash-In being cancelled, Kermit Weeks announced that Fantasy of Flight will be closed on April 23. The museum’s hours of operation during the weeklong event will be 11 am to 3 pm on April 24 through 26. The Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-In and Expo is set to take place at the Lakeland Linder Airport April 21 through 26.
