Potential Loose Aircraft Part Crashes into Virginia House

FAA to determine where mystery part came from.

FAA personnel are investigating a mysterious object that fell through the roof of a Virginia home located along the flight path of Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., last week.

The large hunk of metal, as well as the hole in the ceiling through which it fell, was found by homeowner Abby Baker on Friday morning. She initially thought it was part of a gas pipe, but after having the gas company inspect it, she was told that it was likely a piece from an aircraft.

The FAA says it is currently looking into Friday morning flight records to determine whether or not the piece of metal, which measures four inches long and weighs several pounds, fell from an airplane.

No injuries were incurred as a result of the incident.
