Carbon Cub EX-2 Brings Greater Backcountry Capabilities

Yakima, Washington-based CubCrafters announced a new Carbon Cub version at the Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In and Expo this week, improving upon the amateur-built airplane's already impressive backcountry capabilities. The addition of what the company has termed the G-Series ailerons, flaps and tail feathers improves controllability, reduces the stall speed and provides greater trim authority.

The controllability and control harmony of Carbon Cub EX-2 were improved through its newly designed ailerons, which produce "markedly lighter and crisper roll response compared to legacy aircraft," CubCrafters said.

The G-series' slotted flaps, a first for the Carbon Cub, reduce the stall speed and hence the short field capabilities of the airplane. And EX-2 pilots are sure to enjoy the availability of more trim authority when operating near the forward or aft limits of the center of gravity envelope. CubCrafters achieved this through adjustable elevator stops, which provide greater down-elevator trim.

"Together, the G-Series control surfaces improve the overall responsiveness of the aircraft, and provide an appreciable improvement in control harmony," said CubCrafters' CEO Jim Richmond. "Experienced Cub pilots will be impressed."
