Cirrus Jet Flight Testing Advances

Projected deliveries beginning at the end of 2015.

The Cirrus Jet continues to progress in flight testing after the first production conforming airplane made its maiden flight in March, the company announced this week at AirVenture 2014. While the airplane, dubbed “C-Zero,” makes it way through Part 23 testing, the company is finishing up production of the next two production conforming airplanes, which are expected to enter testing by the close of the year.

Cirrus says the single-engine V-tail jet will have a cruise speed that tops out at 300 knots and seating for up to five adults and two children. Powered by a Williams FJ33 engine, the airplane is designed to ease the transition up to a jet from a less complex aircraft.

Since Cirrus began accepting deposits for the Vision Jet in 2006, the company has accumulated more than 550 orders, which it says it will begin fulfilling with the delivery of the first jet by the end of 2015.

Cirrus gave updates on a number of other program updates at Oshkosh, including a preview of the all-digital 2015 special edition SR22T and the Cirrus Perception, a sensor capable aircraft tailored for observation and other special missions that will enter service in 2015.
