AOPA Summit Set to Kick Off Thursday

Airplane owners to gather in Hartford; Flying Will Be There!

The annual AOPA convention, now called AOPA Summit, will kick off in Hartford, Connecticut, on Thursday in the middle of one of the worst economic downturns in general aviation history but amid much optimism on the part of exhibitors. The show kicks off early on the calendar this year. It runs from Sept. 22 to 24, so don’t expect to see much New England foliage.

Last year’s event, in Long Beach, California, drew a good crowd but featured relatively little industry news, unlike in years past. AOPA expects a strong event this year, as it returns to Hartford, which was the site of the very successful 2007 event.

The hub airport for AOPA Summit will be Hartford Brainard, a popular GA airport nestled in a meander of the Connecticut River. It’s one of the cozier airports that plays host to AOPA’s annual event, which I like, and it’s not too far from town; the commute from the Hartford Convention Center to the static display is a no-brainer. AOPA provides frequent free shuttle bus rides back and forth to the static, now known as Airportfest.

Summit will host numerous seminars, panel discussions and forums.

As always, Flying will be at the show. Look for our special AOPA Summit edition of the Flying eNews on Friday.
