Is your pilot watch not big enough? Not flashy enough? Then consider the HM4 Thunderbolt, the latest in a series of watches by upscale Geneva-based mechanical art design house MB&F.
The Thunderbolt is a conversation starter, to be sure. It is a watch inspired by both the A-10 Warthog and the post modern steampunk movement. Moreover, according to the company, it “wasn’t designed specifically to tell the time.” Instead, it is as much a work of art as a timepiece — MB&F doesn’t even call its products “watches” but “horological machines,” in an effort to drive home the point that they’re all about the design.
The HM4, the last effort in the HM series, is a dual “turbojet” model, with one side featuring the time — if you’re interested — and the other side the “power reserve.” The watch is manually wound and can go for a long weekend of spinning and timekeeping. Made of titanium and boasting a 100-part-count movement, the HM4 goes for a cool $59,000.
