Mooney International opened the week of Sun 'n Fun with a press conference and public showing of a full-size mockup of its clean sheet M10T model.
The all-composite three-seat trainer is slated to fly by the end of the year. It will be powered by a 135 hp Continental turbodiesel engine with single-lever power. A Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck is up front.
Mooney CEO Dr. Jerry Chen told Flying that the aim of the program is not to just build and launch an airplane model but to redo the entire process, from production to design to sales and support. The goal, he said, was to provide desirable products with a sustainable business model so Mooney is around for a long time to come.
At the press conference Mooney announced its partnership with Redbird Flight Simulations, and showed off a full-motion Redbird FMX sim for the Mooney M10T. Redbird will also, Chen and Redbird's Todd Willinger announced, partner with Mooney on Redbird's entry into the Chinese simulator market.
