Lake Superior College

Duluth, MN

Located in Duluth, Minnesota, Lake Superior College offers an associate degree track for both future helicopter and fixed-wing pilots.

Program Highlights

Lake Superior College hosts an FAA-approved Part 141 Pilot School to provide ground and pilot training. Flight training occurs at the Duluth International Airport (KDLH). Almost all classes for the aviation degree plan are located at the Center for Advanced Aviation at the airport.

The dual program is:

  • Associate of Applied Science
    • Professional PIlot

Students who want to pursue flight training without being enrolled in a degree path can take flight courses and gain licenses and ratings independently.

Value

Lake Superior College’s base tuition is affordable. In-state tuition and out-of-state tuition will run approximately $5,600 a year. This is base tuition and does not include flight expenses.

Flight students will have varied fees depending on if they choose to pursue a helicopter or fixed-wing track. Helicopter students should expect to spend $183,000. Fixed-wing students will pay a little less (about $113,000).

The college offers many aviation scholarships for students to reduce costs even more, including the:

● LSC Foundation Scholarship
● Cirrus Aircraft Workforce Scholarship
● ACF Barnes W. Rose, Jr. and Eva Rose Nichol Scholarship

The school also accepts veteran’s benefits such as the GI Bill.

Fleet and Facilities

Lake Superior College hosts an up-to-date fleet that includes:

● Cirrus SR20s
● American Champion Citabrias
● Piper Seminoles
● Robinson R44s
● Bell 206s

Graduates will be eligible for a R-ATP.

The Bottom Line
