Finally, Beechcraft G36 Bonanza pilots can fly with the peace of mind of having ice protection.
The FAA has awarded a new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the G36 to CAV Aerospace in Salina, Kansas, for its TKS Flight Into Known Icing (FIKI) system. The G36 STC is an amendment to CAV’s STC for the A36 Bonanza and costs $47,500 to install. The TKS system sends glycol-based fluid through laser drilled titanium panels installed on the leading edges of the wings and horizontal and vertical stabilizers.
A slinger ring on the propeller and a spray bar for the windshield also exude the fluid to protect those surfaces from ice build up. A full tank of fluid provides 2.5 hours of continuous ice protection for the G36 and the system can quickly be turned on and off as needed. The system adds 51 pounds empty and 115.4 pounds with a full tank of fluid.
TKS ice protection systems have been installed in more than 6,000 high performance aircraft.
