Continental unveiled its new CD-170R jet-A piston engine variant, specifically designed for rotorcraft, at the AERO 2024 trade show.
The 170 hp turbocharged engine is lighter (no gearbox) and features full authority digital engine control (FADEC) for improved fuel efficiency (approx. 7.9 gallons/hour in cruise) and simplified pilot operation, allowing focus on critical flight phases.
Continental has submitted its certification package for the CD-170R to EASA and expects approval by the end of the year, with an initial time between replacement (TBR) of 1,200 hours.

The powerplant manufacturer, which is a subsidiary of Continental Aerospace Technologies, has submitted its certification package to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and expects certification by the end of the year.
