The movie, according to the U.S. Navy, spawned a surge of interest among those seeking to become pilots, but the effects rippled beyond the military and across all facets of flying, including general aviation. Now, four decades later, the movie’s long-awaited sequel is set to be released Memorial Day weekend and another aviation boom could be afoot.
