The Cirrus SR20 G3 represents a significant evolution from its original design, described as "all grown up" with substantial improvements in handling, comfort, and capability.
Key upgrades in the G3 model include a new, lighter, and longer carbon fiber wing (shared with the SR22 G3) which increases useful load and provides smoother, more harmonious handling.
The SR20 G3 features a refined interior, taller landing gear, and comes standard with the capable Avidyne Entegra flat-panel avionics suite including WAAS-equipped Garmin navigators, offering improved cruise speeds and making it a surprisingly effective cross-country airplane.
It’s official. With the introduction of the G3 version, the seminal Cirrus SR20 piston single is all grown up.
I hadn’t fully realized that until recently, when I had the lucky chance to fly a pair of SR20s, one really old one (well, as old as they get) and one brand spanking new one, in close succession.
