Genesys Updates S-TEC 3100 Autopilot Display, VNAV

The bezel of the S-TEC 3100 gets an upgrade to accommodate new VNAV functionality and a menu button. Genesys Aerospace

Genesys Aerosystems has been granted TSO approval on the S-TEC 3100 digital autopilot that comprises both software and hardware updates to the model. The update, version 1.4, waits only on individual supplemental type certificate approval for each aircraft model—and is anticipated to be complete by the third quarter of 2021.

Version 1.4 features a new bezel and a white backlit display for high readability in bright sunlight. The bezel will eventually accommodate both new VNAV and menu (MNU) buttons—though the VNAV button revision won’t be available until the end of 2021. The software update includes support for GPS en route VNAV when used in concert with an approved EFIS or GPS navigator. This will allow the autopilot to follow step-down vertical guidance used by STARs, plus two-way communication of lateral and vertical targets. There are also new mode annunciations, integration with the Aspen Avionics Max PFD and other improvements driven by feedback from users.

The upgrade will cost $1,495—but Genesys offers a $500 discount if the bezel upgrade is purchased by December 31, 2021. The software-only upgrade—with no VNAV capability or change to the bezel—is free for existing installations. The three-axis S-TEC 3100 starts at $24,995, with a two-axis system starting at $19,995. Upgrades to existing S-TEC autopilots can be had starting at $9,995.
