Delta Jet Skids Off Runway at LaGuardia Airport

Around 11 a.m. this morning, Delta Flight 1086 skidded off Runway 13 at the LaGuardia Airport in New York. The area is in the middle of a winter storm with heavy snow and poor visibility. The airplane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-88, was on its way from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, carrying 131 passengers and crew, according to the New York City Fire Department.

The New York Times reported that some passengers evacuated the cabin onto a broken wing. In the end, all passengers deplaned safely and no major injuries were reported; however, some passengers reportedly suffered bruises and bumps. From images posted on social media, it appears that the airplane went through a ditch and into a fence before coming to a stop. Images also showed how close the plane was to water.

A final update from the New York City Fire Department on Twitter reported 28 total patients and 5 transported — all with non-life-threatening injuries.
