Garmin Announces A Series of Products and Upgrades

Garmin came to EAA AirVenture with a full slate of news ranging from new apps for the iPhone to full certification for the G1000 in the CitationJet. The latter announcement came on July 19, and breathes new life into the CitationJet series for Cessna. For GPS695/696 users, the newest feature is georeferenced charts, meaning they will be able to follow their aircraft along the approach on the screen of their portable navigator.

Set for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year, Garmin FliteCharts is an electronic version of the National Aeronautical Navigation Services Charts (AeroNav Services). Available immediately is Garmin's georeferenced ChartView with Jeppesen data. Garmin also announced a software update for its G500/600 series panel-mounted glass avionics suite. The new software includes compatibility with Garmin's GSR 56 Iridium voice and data service for worldwide weather capability as well as third party radar display, support for a radar altimeter and the AOPA Airport Directory database. Operators can also interface a forward-looking infrared (Flir) camera for enhanced vision systems. Garmin also announced its Digital Cyclone subsidiary has upgraded its Pilot My-Cast application for the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
