March 10, 2010, Marfa, Texas, Beech A35 Bonanza

During the landing flare, the pilot realized the landing gear had not been extended when the “step” contacted the runway. He initiated a go-around; however, the airplane did not climb as expected. The pilot attempt to land on a different runway and extended the landing gear but the airplane descended rapidly and impacted terrain. The left main and nose landing gears collapsed.

March 10, 2010, Farmingdale, N.Y., Gulfstream III

At about 1255 Eastern time, the airplane experienced a power loss on its No. 2 engine while climbing through FL350. Visual conditions prevailed for the Part 135 on-demand passenger flight. The airline transport pilot, co-pilot, cabin service representative and two passengers reported no injuries.

March 12, 2010, Chicago, Ill., Embraer EMB-145LR

The airplane, operating as Express Jet Airlines Flight 5685, received minor damage at about 1814 Central time when it sustained a lightning strike while on approach. The flightcrew encountered elevator control binding but landed without further incident. There were no injuries to the two pilots, one flight attendant and 42 passengers aboard the Part 121 scheduled passenger flight.

March 12, 2010, Boulder City, Nev., Beech K35 Bonanza

At about 1645 Mountain time, the airplane collided with power lines and was substantially damaged. The private pilot was killed. Visual conditions prevailed. According to witnesses, the pilot announced over the Unicom frequency he was low on fuel and inbound for landing. A short time later, he stated the airplane was gliding. Another witness reported the airplane struck power lines east of the airport and went straight down.

March 13, 2010, Aniak, Alaska, Piper PA-22-160

The private pilot was flying about 75 feet above the ground, looking for a landing area on a frozen river. The wind was gusting, the airplane rolled 90 degrees, and he was unable to counter the roll before impacting terrain. He reported there were no mechanical problems with the airplane prior to the accident.
