Cessna yesterday rolled out the 400th Citation CJ3 light jet. In its ninth year of production, the CJ3 outsells its competition by 70 percent, according to Cessna. Powered by a pair of fadec-controlled Williams FJ44-3A fanjets, the single-pilot-certified CJ3 is largely owner-flown.
The Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 flight deck is common among all CJs, making stepping up easier for pilots and streamlining the training process. The suite includes a pair of 8-inch by 10-inch primary flight displays and a center multifunction display. It also comes standard with the Collins FMS-3000 flight management system; Collins autopilot with VNAV; TCAS II, LandMark TAWS 8000 (Class B); and satellite broadcast graphical weather.
With seating for up to eight, the CJ3 has been praised for its fuel efficiency, low operating costs and payload capacity. Maximum range is 1,875 nautical miles. Don Beverlin, business leader for the entire CJ series said, “Cessna customers have confidence in the first 400, and we know they’ll have the same level of confidence in the next 400.”
