Boeing Business Jets Launches BBJ Max Airplanes

Boeing’s new BBJ Max line

The business jet side of Boeing this week announced its intent to offer a new ultra-long-range line of airplanes called BBJ Max. The first offerings will be the BBJ Max 8 and BBJ Max 9, said BBJ President Steven Taylor at a press conference at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The new models, he said, extend the range significantly over previous BBJ models.

“For our market, range is really what matters. It connects the city pairs,” said Taylor.

First to launch will be the BBJ Max 8, which is based on the Boeing 737 Max 8. With CFM International’s LEAP-1B engines and Boeing’s Advanced Technology Winglet, Boeing claims the airplane will realize a 13 percent reduction in the fuel burn and a range of 6,325 nautical miles, an increase of more than 800 nm over the BBJ2 with the same cabin size.

The BBJ Max 9 will realize an even greater range increase over the BBJ3, with a range of 6,255 nm. This airplane is based on 737 Max 9.

Taylor also announced BBJ’s intent to develop a BBJ Max 7, though this will be a later project. “We’re still studying what the BBJ variant of the dash 7 will be, ” said Taylor.
