Wing Part Thought To Be from Flight MH370 Found

Investigators say part of a wing that washed up on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean came from a Boeing 777, making it appear likely that searchers have gotten their first big break in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

French investigators will check a number found on the wing part, thought to be a flaperon, to determine whether it came from the missing airplane. Boeing officials have reportedly confirmed it is a 777 part based on videos and photographs they have seen.

The wing part was discovered on Thursday by people cleaning the beach on the French island. Officials said it appears to have been in the water for a very long time and was encrusted with shells.

Reunion Island is about 3,000 miles west of the search area where Australian teams have been combing the ocean floor for the jetliner, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, with 239 passengers and crew on board.
