Key Takeaways:

  • Tamarack Aerospace's Smartwing-equipped King Air 350 set speed records on flights to and from NBAA-BACE, covering long distances (e.g., 2,033 nm nonstop from Spokane to Orlando) and has applied for official recognition from the NAA and FAI.
  • The primary motivation for these record attempts was to demonstrate the Smartwing active winglet technology's benefits, including significant fuel efficiency (approaching double-digit savings), enhanced stability, increased range, and a smoother ride.
  • The technology holds particular interest for military applications, offering increased range and loiter time for ISR missions and improved performance in high/hot conditions, as well as for business aircraft owners seeking enhanced safety and stability.

Tamarack Aerospace delivered an update on its Smartwing technology for the Beechcraft King Air 350 at the National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention and Expo (NBAA-BACE) in Orlando back in October.

Turns out they posted some pretty fast times going to and from the event—and they’ve now made formal application for those records to both the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) in the U.S. and Europe’s Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) for official recognition following its “Speed-Over-A-Recognized-Course” attempt.
