February 07, Suffolk, Va. / Cessna 150

At 1100 eastern time, a Cessna 150F lost power on initial climb from Suffolk Municipal Airport. The pilot was not injured. The pilot said he had just taken off when the engine lost total power. The pilot performed a forced landing to a wooded area, where the airplane collided with trees. Examination of the engine revealed that the number four cylinder had separated at the mid-point on the barrel. The engine had been overhauled in 1994 and had accumulated about 800 hours of operation since then….

January 27, High Falls, Ga. / Cessna 150

At 1611 eastern time, a Cessna 150G struck trees and crashed while maneuvering over a residence in High Falls. The pilot was killed. Several witnesses said the pilot was circling over several homes at a low altitude and waving his hand out the window. The witnesses then saw the airplane in a steep turn and descending into the trees….

September 07, Jetersville, Va. / Cessna 150

At 0930 eastern time, a Cessna 150M was damaged during an aborted takeoff from a grass field in Jetersville. The pilot was not injured. The pilot said he landed in the field about 0900 and had previously operated from the field without any problems. He described the field as approximately 1,800 feet long and covered with grass that was approximately 4 to 5 inches high. At about 0930, he initiated his takeoff but the airplane would not accelerate past 50 knots. He decided to abort the liftoff, but the tires slid in the grass, which was wet from the morning dew, and the airplane slid into trees….

September 06, Farmington, N.M. / Cessna 150

At 0802 mountain time, a Cessna 150J was damaged during a forced landing near Four Corners Regional Airport. The pilot suffered serious injuries. The flight had originated at Aztec at approximately 0745. The tower operator said that, as the airplane was entering a left base for runway 07, a expletive was heard over the tower frequency and shortly thereafter an emergency locator transmitter signal was heard. Emergency personnel said they arrived on the scene to find the pilot had already pulled himself out of the inverted airplane and was sitting on the wing. The pilot told them dont worry about a fire, theres no fuel….

April 19, Coos Bay, Ore. / Cessna 150

At approximately 1400 Pacific time, a Cessna 150 suffered a loss on control on takeoff from a private airstrip near Coos Bay, seriously injuring the student pilot and his passenger. The pilots son, who witnessed the accident, said he thought the pilot would abort the takeoff because it sounded like the power was being reduced. The son added that then the power increased, but the airplane rotated at too slow an airspeed….

April 25, Trenton, Tenn. / Cessna 150

At 1515 central time, a Cessna 150 crashed while chasing a bank robber near Trenton. The pilot was seriously injured and the passenger was not injured. The pilot was assisting the local police in tracking a bank robber. During the observation flight, the robber was tracked to an open field near the airport. The pilot entered a steep turn in an effort to corral the bank robber into a confined area until ground personnel were on site. As the pilot continued the maneuver, he encountered a wind gust and was unable to recover before the airplane collided with the ground….

March 23, Houston, Texas / Cessna 150 Aerobat

At approximately 0945 central time, a Cessna FA150K aerobatic airplane sustained structural damage during recovery from an acrobatic maneuver near Houston. The pilot was not injured. The pilot said he completed a wingover and felt flutter in the elevator, then the elevator jammed. The pilot managed to land without further incident. Examination of the airplane revealed that the trim tab had separated from the right elevator, the right stabilizer was bent upward, the trim tab actuator was found loose in the mount and the rivet holes where the trim tab attached to the elevator were deformed. Black electrical tape was found under the clamp for the trim tab actuator….

February 25, Williamson, N.Y. / Cessna 150

At 1150 eastern time, a Cessna 150J was damaged during a takeoff from Williamson-Sodus Airport. The pilot was not injured. The pilot said about three inches of new snow had fallen at the airport and he could not see the runway centerline due to the snow coverage. He applied full power for the takeoff and during the takeoff roll, the airplanes left main landing gear caught the edge of a snow bank and the airplane veered off the left side of the runway….

January 11, Everglades City, Fla. / Cessna 150

At about 1553 eastern time, a Cessna 150K ditched into the water at the end of the runway after an aborted landing at Everglades Airpark. The flight instructor received minor injuries and the student received serious injuries. The instructor stated the student was on a stable approach to runway 33 but bounced the landing. The student then advanced the power for a go-around and the airplane banked to the left. The instructor took control and banked the airplane back toward the runway centerline. The airplane struck the runway edge lights on the right side of the runway, but the instructor continued the go-around. The airplane was airborne by the end of the runway but could not climb.
