September 18 is the Last Day to Claim FAA ADS-B Rebates

As long as you sign up for the program by the deadline, there’s still time to install the gear and receive a $500 check from the government.

Time is running out to claim the $500 rebate checks the FAA is making available to piston airplane owners who equip with ADS-B. Launched last September as an inducement to pilots still on the fence about the ADS-B mandate that takes effect at the stroke of midnight on Jan. 1, 2020, the program ends on Monday, September 18.

Although the registration deadline is fast approaching, pilots who reserve a slot on the FAA’s ADS-B website can install and validate their ADS-B Out gear at a later date and still receive a rebate check.

After signing up for the rebate, you must install the equipment in your airplane and then validate it on a short flight before receiving the $500 rebate.

Airplanes eligible for the program include piston singles registered in the United States before Jan. 1, 2016. Approximately 11,000 rebates have been claimed to date.
