At about 13:11 EST, a Cessna 172 and a Let L-13 glider collided while on final approach to the Okeechobee County Airport. The Cessna was substantially damaged but the student pilot was not injured. The glider sustained minor damage and the sole occupant was not injured. The Cessna pilot said that he announced his position on the Unicom frequency and entered the traffic pattern on a left downwind for runway 13. Nov. 13, Prescott, Ariz. / Cessna 172N Skyhawk

At 16:00 MST, a Cessna 172N was damaged during a forced landing in rough terrain 15 miles west of Prescott. The flight instructor and dual student were not injured but the airplane was substantially damaged. The flight schools safety officer said the flight instructor and student were conducting a simulated engine failure from approximately 3,500 feet agl when the student inadvertently shut the fuel selector off without the flight instructor noticing. At 500 feet agl, the flight instructor asked the student to do a go-around. Jan. 26, Guymon, Okla. / Cessna 172E Skyhawk

At 15:00 CST, a Cessna 172E flipped over in gusting winds while taxiing for takeoff at the Guymon Municipal Airport. The airplane sustained substantial damage but the sole occupant was not injured. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. The pilot checked the weather and discovered the winds from the south at 22 knots with gusts to 39 knots. The pilot taxied the airplane downwind for the takeoff on runway 18. At 11:53 MST, a Cessna 172P collided with a Cessna TR182 while entering the traffic pattern. The student in the 172 and the licensed student pilot in the 182 were killed, and the flight instructor in the 182 suffered serious injuries. Both aircraft were destroyed. The 172 was returning for landing and the 182 was departing the traffic pattern at the time of the accident….

Nov. 24, Bacliff, Texas / Cessna 172N Skyhawk

At approximately 11:00 CST, a Cessna 172N struck power lines during cruise flight in IMC. The non-instrument rated pilot and his passenger were killed. The flight originated at Ellington Field near Houston at 10:44. ATC records showed the pilot requested a southeast departure, and was cleared for takeoff. Ellington weather included scattered clouds at 400 feet and 1,600 feet, with reduced visibility to the south. A witness said he observed the airplane come out of the fog and hit a power line and tumble to the ground. At about 1045 eastern time, a Cessna 172RG was damaged during a hard landing at Greater Rochester International Airport. The pilot was not injured. The pilot had flown from Rochester to Brockport and back. During the outbound leg, he suspected the airspeed indicator was reading low for his altitude and power setting, but was not convinced it was a significant problem. He landed at Brockport and departed for the return leg without exiting the airplane. On approach to Rochester, he was cleared to land on runway 22, the main runway, which led him to attempt to expedite the landing. August 17, Plainville, Conn. / Cessna 172

At 1129 eastern time, a Cessna 172S crashed after takeoff from Robertson Field, killing the pilot and passenger. Witnesses said the engine sounded normal during taxi and takeoff from runway 02, but at about 50 feet agl the engine noise changed as if it had experienced a power reduction. Then the witnesses saw smoke trailing from the airplane. The airplane had climbed to about 300-400 feet agl when the pilot initiated a left turn at a 45-degree bank. The left wing dropped further and the airplane descended into a parking lot. At 0930 mountain time, a Cessna 172N aborted its takeoff from runway 4R at Falcon Field Airport after smoke was observed in the cockpit. The airplane was destroyed by fire but the flight instructor and student pilot were uninjured. The CFI said smoke started coming from the panel just after rotation.
