Video: Transonic Flyby Smashes Brazilian Supreme Court Windows

A Brazilian Air Force pilot landed himself in hot water this week after flying a supersonic Mirage 2000 fighter fast and low enough to shatter approximately 100 windows of the country’s Supreme Federal Court Building.

The blowout took place during a monthly flag ceremony in Brasilia that featured a scheduled aerial demonstration organized by Brazil’s Air Demonstration Squadron.

According to the Brazilian Air Force, the pilot in question has been suspended after flying his Mirage 2000 at almost 700 miles per hour directly above the area containing the heavily-windowed Supreme Court building and presidential palace.

While the pilot didn’t break the sound barrier, he did manage to break enough glass to cause what could tally more than $40,000 in damage.

The military is currently investigating the incident.
