Members of tomorrow's aviation workforce are getting a leg up on their future careers, thanks to Embry-Riddle Worldwide's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program, which provides university-level aviation education to select groups of high school students.
The program, which is currently active at six Arizona schools and one Nevada school, offers participants the ability to earn up to two dozen college credits in aviation-related subjects. Availability may depend upon the particular school, but students can choose from six tracks, including pre-aeronautics, pre-engineering, pre-aviation maintenance, physics/mathematics, general studies and management. The courses are led by high school instructors who have undergone training with Embry-Riddle.
In addition to their exposure inside the classroom, several students from the program met with industry leaders at NBAA's Careers in Business Aviation Day during the organization's convention last week in Las Vegas.
