The airplane was substantially damaged at about 1737 Eastern time when it impacted terrain. The commercial pilot and the private pilot aboard were fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed. The pilot and passenger were returning from an air show and were flying in formation with a Sukhoi Su-29 and an Extra EA-300.
Subsequently, the Su-29’s pilot reported the accident airplane’s pitch smoothly increased upward to an angle of about 30 degrees. The airplane then began a roll to the left, and as the airplane rolled to an inverted attitude, it pitched nose-down and rolled right before impacting terrain in an approximate 80-degree nose-down attitude.
