TFR Over Nantucket Starts Today

Nantucket
Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

  • A VIP temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect over Nantucket for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, potentially for an important visitor.
  • The TFR covers two distinct areas and durations: a shorter one centered on the airport today, and a longer one six miles northwest of the Nantucket VOR lasting until Sunday, November 25.
  • Pilots are advised to be alert to these restrictions (within a three nautical mile radius and up to 3,000 feet) and coordinate communications with Boston Center or Cape Approach ATC.

The island of Nantucket could be hosting an important visitor for the Thanksgiving (post-election?) break. A VIP temporary flight restriction, FDC 2/4277, goes into effect today at 3:45 local time over Nantucket, off the coast of Massachusetts.

Restrictions will be in place over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The TFR covers two areas, the first centered on the airport (from 3:45 p.m. EST today until 5 p.m.). The second area is centered about six miles northwest of the Nantucket VOR (ACK), and that restriction begins at 4 p.m. and lasts until midnight of Sunday, November 25. Fortunately for pilots planning to fly to Nantucket, the second (longer) TFR area does not encompass the airport.
