TFR Over Nantucket Starts Today

Nantucket

The island of Nantucket could be hosting an important visitor for the Thanksgiving (post-election?) break. A VIP temporary flight restriction, FDC 2/4277, goes into effect today at 3:45 local time over Nantucket, off the coast of Massachusetts.

Restrictions will be in place over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The TFR covers two areas, the first centered on the airport (from 3:45 p.m. EST today until 5 p.m.). The second area is centered about six miles northwest of the Nantucket VOR (ACK), and that restriction begins at 4 p.m. and lasts until midnight of Sunday, November 25. Fortunately for pilots planning to fly to Nantucket, the second (longer) TFR area does not encompass the airport.

But pilots are advised to be alert to restrictions over the island over the weekend, and coordinate their communications with ATC accordingly. The ARTCC involved is Boston Center. Cape Approach Tracon frequency listed for the Nantucket area is 126.1. The areas involved include all airspace within a radius of three nautical miles from the center of the TFR, and up to (but not including) 3,000 feet.
