Gulfstream Launches G250 Super-Midsize

Undaunted by a skittish Wall Street, Gulfstream has launched its second all-new design this year-the super-midsize G250. Following on the announcement of the ultra-long-range G650 in March, the $24 million G250 is based on the G200 (née Galaxy) but features a completely new wing (with engine-driven deicing replacing the boots on the Galaxy); a new T-tail; and the dedicated PlaneView 250 avionics suite based on Rockwell Collins' Pro Line Fusion platform. Preliminary performance target numbers include 39,000-pound maximum takeoff weight; 3,400 nm range at Mach .80; typical takeoff performance compatible with 5,000-foot runways; 45,000-foot ceiling and top speed of Mach .85. First flight is expected in the second half of next year, with certification and initial deliveries slated for 2011. The G250 will be constructed by Israel Aerospace Industries in Tel Aviv, then flown to Gulfstream's completion facility in Dallas for paint and interior.
