The Parade of Planes will once again proceed through the streets of Palm Springs, California, from the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) to the Palm Springs Convention Center as AOPA opens the doors to its annual Aviation Summit this week. The parade will proceed on Wednesday morning beginning at 10 a.m. and the convention runs Oct 11-13.

In addition to a large outdoor display of airplanes ranging from light sport aircraft to business jets, the Summit will feature more than 400 booths and nearly 100 hours of seminars. To help you navigate through the busy schedule and convention hall, you can download Sporty's AOPA Aviation Summit 2012 app.

In addition to the seminars, there are also flight training opportunities available. The Society of Aviation and Flight Instructors (SAFE) is offering its Pilot Proficiency Program using Redbird's FMX flight simulator. In addition, a few flight training providers in the area are offering special deals on topics such as glass panel transition, tailwheel endorsement, and hot air balloon training at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (TRM).

If you've been dreaming of flying a warbird, you can satisfy your dream at PSP during the Summit. And make sure you attend Friday morning's keynote address, which will feature our own Editor-in-Chief, Robert Goyer, actor and pilot Harrison Ford, among others.

Pia Bergqvist joined FLYING in December 2010. A passionate aviator, Pia started flying in 1999 and quickly obtained her single- and multi-engine commercial, instrument and instructor ratings.
