There were numerous questions on the minds of many in the aviation universe about how this year’s AirVenture would play out. So far, the aviation gods are smiling upon the show. Despite widespread FAA furloughs, the threat of federal loan defaults and the specter of economic havoc, the EAA’s annual aviation extravaganza is off to a booming start.
By Tuesday morning the camping areas at EAA was filling up, as was aircraft parking. Crowds at the show were, likewise, bustling, as showgoers filled the halls in advance of the arrival later in the week of a gaggle of impressive airplanes.
Highly anticipated arrivals included FIFI, the only flying B-29 Super Fortress in the world, and the Boeing 787, which will be making its public debut in North America during one-day appearance on Friday. Technology innovations featured prominently as aircraft, engine and avionics makers revealed details of their latest projects, although no new airplanes have been introduced.
