At about 1435 Eastern time, the airplane was substantially damaged after a loss of engine power and forced landing. The commercial pilot and passenger received minor injuries. Visual conditions prevailed. Approximately 25 minutes into the cross-country flight, the engine lost power and manifold pressure decreased. This was followed by a grinding noise, a decrease in oil pressure, a loud bang and a rough-running engine. The pilot was unable to maintain altitude and elected to make an emergency landing in a field. During the emergency landing, the airplane hit a power line pole and came to a complete stop. A power line broke away from the pole and started a brush fire. The pilot and his passenger exited the airplane, and the airplane was consumed by post-crash fire.
