The airplane was substantially damaged at about 1655 Eastern time when it impacted trees and terrain while on final approach. The commercial pilot and passenger were fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed; an IFR flight plan had been filed.
According to witnesses, the airplane passed beyond the extended runway centerline for Runway 13. The pilot executed a steep right turn toward the runway, the airplane pitched down and descended at a steep angle behind a tree line. All flight control surfaces were accounted for at the scene and flight control continuity was confirmed for all major flight control surfaces. All three propeller blades exhibited chordwise scratching.
