Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner touched down at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Friday morning for the composite-construction airliner’s highly anticipated public debut in North America. It spent the day parked on the EAA AirVenture display line, and was open to anyone who wanted to walk through.

This was the first time the public was being allowed on board. Built with composites throughout much of its structure, the 787 is the first midsize airliner capable of a range of over 8,500 nautical miles, thanks to improved fuel efficiency that’s claimed to be some 20 percent better than that of current-technology airplanes. Japan’s All Nippon Airways expects to take delivery of the first 787 by the end of September.
