Oct. 19, El Monte, Calif. / Cessna 150H

At 16:15 PDT, a Cessna 150H nosed over during a precautionary landing when the engine began running roughly near El Monte. The pilot sustained minor injuries. The purpose of the flight was to conduct banner towing near the Los Angeles Coliseum. The pilot said he departed Chino and was flying west toward the tow area when he began to have engine problems. The problem got worse and the pilot selected a landing site at the landfill because it was the only site he felt would keep him away from populated areas. Jan. 29, Windsor, Calif. / Cessna 150

At 12:57 PST, a Cessna 150F lost engine power during cruise and made an emergency landing in a vineyard in Windsor. The three occupants were not injured. The flight had originated from Willows, Calif., and was scheduled to terminate at the Sonoma County airport. The pilot told a deputy he had run out of fuel. Investigators found fuel in the airplane but found the spark plugs lead-fouled and determined that the carb heat actuating cable was broken internally….

Jan. 7, Marysville, Wash. / Cessna 150

At approximately 06:30 PST, a Cessna 150G struck power lines during an attempted emergency landing on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 about four miles north of Marysville. The unlicensed pilot, who was the sole occupant, was killed. The owner of the airplane said it had been stolen from Arlington Municipal Airport about three to four minutes prior to the accident. Witnesses saw the aircraft descending toward the west about two miles south of Arlington Airport. As it came over the highway, it descended toward the southbound lanes like it was going to land. April 22, Waycross, Ga. / Cessna 150

At 11:10 EDT, a Cessna 150 struck a utility pole while attempting a forced landing near Waycross. The student pilot was not injured. The flight departed Zellwood, Fla., at 07:30. The student pilot reported that he had received a weather briefing before departing Zellwood and was aware of the strong winds aloft. He estimated a ground speed of approximately 70 miles per hour and calculated three hours to the destination airport in Alma, Ga. About 40 miles from his destination, the engine lost power. He attempted to land at Ware County Airport but could not make the field….

At 13:00 EDT, a Cessna 150M struck a jet blast fence while on final approach to runway 21 at the Leesburg Municipal Airport. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries. Witnesses said the airplane appeared to be low on the approach and the nose gear struck the concrete blast fence. The nose gear folded back and the airplane struck the runway nose-low and slid to a stop….

Jan. 29, Wiscasset, Maine / Cessna 150

At 12:20 EST, a Cessna 150 was damaged while making a forced landing shortly after takeoff from Wiscasset Airport. The pilot was not injured, The pilot told investigators the engine quit about 150 feet above the ground. He tried to turn back to the runway but landed about 100 feet short. The pilot stated that he thought the fuel vents had been clogged with ice. He also stated that during the preflight, he did not sump the wing fuel tanks because the drains were frozen, and that he found water when he drained the fuel strainer….

Feb. 28, Dandridge, Tenn. / Cessna 150

At about 17:30 CST, a Cessna 150H crashed in Dandridge, seriously injuring the pilot. The pilot experienced engine trouble and elected to return to his private airstrip. He was maneuvering to approach the strip when he concluded that he didnt have enough altitude. He set up to land on a road when he saw a vehicle in the road, so he opted to land in the trees. He said that at treetop level he stalled the airplane and let it fall tail first into the trees. The empennage broke off and the airplane fell nose first to the ground….

At about 10:30 PDT, a Cessna 150H overran the runway while returning to land at Lopez Island Airport. The pilot was uninjured. The pilot said he took off and encountered IMC about 200 feet agl. He turned back to the airport and proceeded to land, but the airplane touched down approximately 2,600 feet down the 2,900-foot runway. The aircraft traveled off the departure end of the runway and collided with a fence….

Feb. 7, Redwood City, Calif. / Cessna 150J

At 06:03 PST, a Cessna 150J struck a guide wire on a radio tower near Redwood City. The pilot was killed. The pilot, who used his plane to commute to work, departed Sacramento for San Carlos Airport. A witness said he watched the accident airplane fly directly over his house to the northeast, away from the airport. The witness, who held a commercial rating, said the airplane was approximately 300 to 400 feet agl and flying at cruise power below a fog bank. Another witness heard the crash. The Redwood City Fire Department responded to the scene and had to initiate a foot search for the airplane due to the dense fog in the area. At approximately 1745 central time, a Cessna 150 lost partial engine power and crashed during the ensuing forced landing near Fort Worth. The pilot was not injured. The pilot said he was climbing through 50 feet agl when he noticed the engine starting to lose power. He continued to climb and flew a traffic pattern, turning to downwind at about 200 feet agl. He elected to land in a field ahead of him about a half-mile east of the runway. An FAA inspector reported the mixture control rod had separated from the carburetor….
