July 21, Bamberg, S.C. / Beech Bonanza

At about 09:15 eastern time, a Beech F35 crashed and burned shortly after takeoff from Bamberg County Airport, killing the pilot. The airplane had been delivered to a maintenance facility at the airport for an annual inspection on June 12. The work was completed on July 12 and the pilot came to pick up the airplane on July 21. He paid his bill and then started the airplane, taxied to the end of the runway and took off, all within what witnesses called two minutes. When the airplane climbed to about 100 feet agl the engine began to sputter. The airplane banked almost 90 degrees to the left and the airplane crashed nose-down….

At 08:15 central time, a Beech F35 operated by Basler Turbo Conversions crashed during an approach to runway 36 at Wittman Regional Airport. The pilot was killed. The airplane was completing a 30-minute maintenance test flight….

At about 15:10 eastern time, a Beech 36 was damaged during takeoff at Biddeford Municipal Airport. The pilot, also a flight instructor, sustained minor injuries. Post-accident examination revealed the control column lock had not been removed from the control column….

Jan. 10, Mesa, Ariz. / Beech Bonanza

At 13:07 mountain time, a Beech V35B lost power and landed in a field five miles east of Falcon Field. The two occupants reported minor injuries. The pilot said he had departed Marana, Ariz., about a hour earlier and, while in cruise flight using the left fuel tank, the engine lost power. He was unable to restart the engine and landed gear up in a field. Investigation revealed the left fuel tank contained about 1 quart of fuel and the right tank appeared to be approximately half full….

At 11:34 central time, a Beech C35 crashed left of runway 27 while landing at Wittman Regional Airport. The airplane struck the runways visual approach slope indicator lights before coming to a stop. The pilot and passenger suffered minor injuries. Witnesses observed the airplane in a tight right base for runway 27. The base-to-final turn was reportedly as steep as 60 degrees, at which point the airplane stalled and struck the ground left-wing low….

At 19:39 central time, a Beech F33C crashed while maneuvering during final approach. The pilot and passenger suffered serious injuries. On initial climb the pilot reported the door was open and he wanted to return for landing. The airplane was about 500 feet agl on downwind. When turning base to final the airplane overshot the runway centerline and the controller said the airplane appeared to stall as the pilot maneuvered back to the extended runway centerline….

At approximately 12:15 mountain time, a Beech A36 struck terrain at 10,400 feet msl on Pinnacle Peak, 15 miles southeast of Jackson, while in cruise flight. All five aboard were killed. IMC prevailed but no flight plan as filed. The flight had originated from Garden City, Kan., at 07:00 and the pilot had canceled flight following near Pinedale, Wyo., at 11:41….

At 11:31 central time, a Beech A36 lost engine power and was damaged in the ensuing forced landing. The pilot was not injured. The flight was a post-maintenance test flight and the airplane had just come from its annual inspection. A ground run showed no anomalies, but during a post-accident inspection it appeared a fuel line had loosened enough to leak but not enough to come off its fitting. There was evidence of an engine compartment fire….

At about 14:15 Pacific time, a Beech B36TC struck trees and rising terrain after taking off from Lonnie Pool Field. One passenger was killed. The pilot and one passenger were seriously injured and one passenger sustained minor injuries. The pilot departed on runway 36 into rising terrain, despite warnings at the airport and in the Airport/Facility Directory to take off from runway 18 because of the runways steep slope and rising terrain to the north. The airport is unattended….

February 18, Tybee Island, Ga. / Beech Bonanza

At about 20:17 eastern time, a Beech 36 descended into the Atlantic Ocean near Tybee Island while on a flight from Ormond Beach, Fla., to Williamston, N.C. The pilot and three passengers were killed. The flight was receiving flight following at an altitude of 5,500 feet when radar and radio contact with the flight was lost. Radar data showed the flight made a descending right turn from 5,500 feet and was lost from radar at 2,900 feet….
