July 17, Hernando, Miss. / Beech Baron

At about 12:02 central time, a Beech 58 suffered an in-flight electrical failure and crashed into Arkabutla Lake, killing the pilot. The Park 135 cargo flight originated seven minutes earlier from Memphis, Tenn. The pilot was cleared to climb to 6,000 feet when he reported an electrical fire. The controller advised him of an airport 12 miles away, then informed him of a closer grass strip. The pilot responded by saying that the flight needed to land immediately. Several witnesses reported seeing smoke trail the airplane in flight. A fire on the water after impact lasted an estimated 4-5 minutes….

August 04, Rensselaer, Ind. / Beech Baron

At 15:35 central time, a Beech E55 crashed into a barn and burned during a low-altitude pass. The pilot and passenger survived the crash, but the passenger later died. The airplane had departed Jasper County Airport at 15:30 and made a low pass over a farm before hitting the barn. The airplane traveled through the air another 700 feet, then skidded 100 feet along the ground. VMC prevailed and no flight plan had been filed….

July 18, Sidney, N.Y. / Beech Baron

At about 08:30 eastern time, a Beech BE-58-TC crashed on its third approach to Sidney Airport after missing two similar approaches. The pilot and two passengers were killed. A witness heard the airplane miss the two VOR Runway 25 approaches, then got a phone call from one of the passengers saying they were going to try one more time. The airplane crashed about two miles north of the airport at an elevation about 650 feet higher than the airport. Weather at the time was ceiling about 200 feet with 1 miles visibility at the airport. The accident site had a 100-foot ceiling with -mile visibility….

February 07, Ainsworth, Neb. / Beech Baron

At 07:05 central time, a Beech 58 crashed about a half mile north of the Ainsworth Municipal Airport, killing the pilot and leaving the passenger seriously injured. The Part 135 cargo flight was en route to Valentine, Neb., when it encountered icing conditions and the pilot elected to divert to Ainsworth. While on approach to runway 17, the airplane struck the ground on a heading of 280 degrees. The aircraft was carrying radioactive medical materials and on-site investigation did not began approximately until about 72 hours later….

February 01, Brinkley, Ark. / Beech Baron

At 06:38 central time, a Beech BE-58 made a forced landing in a muddy field near Brinkley, seriously injuring the pilot. The pilot told controllers one of the engines indicated a high temperature on one cylinder and requested a diversion to the nearest airport. He received vectors to Federer Memorial Airport, but then the pilot reported, control problem, plane shaking, not sure Ive got control, but its intermittent, and advised the ARTCC controller that he was going to land the airplane in a field. At the time of the accident, the airplane had accumulated a total of 110 hours flight time….

At 12:10 Pacific time, a Beech BE-55 landed gear-up at San Bernardino. The instructor and student were not injured. The student told police he was receiving flight instruction for his commercial certificate and had just completed two touch-and-go takeoffs and landings. He was on his third touch-and-go to runway 24 when he forgot to lower the landing gear prior to touchdown. The instructor said he did not hear the gear warning horn prior to the accident….

At about 11:48 central time, a Beech 95-C55 lost engine power and crashed on initial climb from runway 31 at St. Cloud Regional Airport. The pilot was seriously injured. A witness said he saw the plane taking off and climbing to about 200 feet agl when it banked steeply to the right and began to go inverted. The pilot said he was at about 150 feet when the right engine lost power. No cause for the power loss could immediately be determined….

At 00:57 central time, a Beech E-55 departed controlled flight and crashed in a residential area three miles east of Joplin Regional Airport. All six aboard were killed. The airplane lost power on one engine and was making a single-engine instrument approach. Witnesses saw the airplane pitch up 30 degrees, roll counterclockwise and dive 45 degrees nose-down to the ground….

July 31, Xenia, Ohio / Beech Baron

At about 09:00 eastern time, a Beech BE-55 crashed near Xenia, killing the commercial pilot and the multi flight instructor. Witnesses reported hearing engines sputtering and saw the airplane in a flat spin as it descended toward the cornfield. The landing gear and flaps were extended. The left and right throttle levers were found in the idle position. The left mixture control was found in the lean position, and the right mixture was mid-range. The left propeller lever was found in the mid-range position, and the right lever was found just forward of the feather position.
