Sporty’s Launches Revamped IFR Course for 2019

Updated courseware can be accessed on multiple devices for one price.

The 2019 edition of Sporty’s instrument rating course is now available, and it’s a major update incorporating hours of all-new HD video content, “smart” study tools and the ability to switch among multiple viewing formats (Web, Android, iPhone/iPad and Apple TV). Best of all, the course includes all of this for one price.

Price for the course is available at Sportys.com for $199.99, a fee that the company says permits access beyond the test-taking portion of your flying career. A student’s progress as he or she takes the course automatically syncs no matter which platform is used, and flight instructors can track progress as well through the totally revamped iOS app.

Once a student has completed the course and successfully taken the practice exams, a written test endorsement can be printed out and taking to any FAA-approved testing center. In addition to written test prep, the course also includes HD video of 32 in-flight maneuvers to help a student ace his or her checkride as well. Sporty’s guarantees students who take the course will pass their written, oral and flight tests or receive a full refund.

Sporty’s notes that unlike some online courses that aim to teach the bare minimum information needed to pass the written test, the its Learn to Fly course focuses on preparing students for real-world flying after they earn their license. Special Air Facts segments with renowned aviation author and former Flying editor Richard Collins include no-nonsense tips new private, sport and recreational pilots can use after the checkride.

Here’s what’s new in the 2019 edition of the course:

  • New Android app that let’s you watch video on your tablet or phone, plus take interactive FAA tests
  • Test prep analytics with detailed progress tracking by category and smart study sessions help you drill efficiently
  • Comprehensive video search that can quickly search every word of the video segments, which Sporty’s says is ideal for checkride review
  • Enhanced flight instructor tracking: CFIs can track specific video segments and test prep session scores
  • Interactive answer references: every quiz question includes links for further study
  • Updated video segments: ADS-B technology, glass cockpits, iPad tips, instrument flying, and more
  • FAA handbooks: comprehensive library of online books for in-depth study.
