August 29, Rapid City, S.D. / Cessna Citation

At approximately 1630, a Cessna 650 suffered failure of its right wing aileron cable while in cruise flight at FL390 approximately 200 miles southeast of Rapid City. The airplane landed without further incident. The pilot reported the airplane was in cruise flight with the autopilot engaged when it suddenly rolled to the right. He disconnected the autopilot and rolled wings level, noting that it took left control wheel deflection to maintain wings level. Initial inspection revealed the right aileron cable failed near the outboard pulley just prior to the bellcrank….

July 22, Coupeville, Wash. / Cessna Citation

At about 1015 Pacific time, a Cessna Citation 525 ditched in the waters of Penn Cove after losing elevator trim control. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The pilot said they were climbing through 16,000 feet en route to FL 330 when the airplane abruptly nosed over to 45 degrees down. He disconnected the autopilot, throttled back and attempted to re-trim the elevator. He said the cockpit trim indicator was in the full nose-down position and neither the manual trim nor the electric trim would respond to his inputs. Dec. 2, Umpire, Ark. / Cessna 501 Citation

At 12:16 CST, a Cessna 501 crashed in a hilly wooded area while in cruise flight near Umpire, Ark., killing the pilot. The flight had originated from the Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport, Mena, Ark., approximately 12 minutes prior to the accident, en route to Texarkana, Ark. Investigators learned the aircraft had been purchased in November and flown to the Goodner Aviation facility at Mena for repainting. On the day of the accident, the Citations owner/pilot arrived at Mena to pick up the airplane from the paint shop. The takeoff appeared normal and all engine sounds were normal. Dec. 9, Branson, Mo. / Cessna Citation

At 15:15 CST, a Cessna 525 struck a hillside 4.3 miles from the approach end of runway 11 at M. Graham Clark Airport. The pilot and five passengers were killed. The operations manager at Clark Airport said the pilot contacted him from St. Louis at 13:48 inquiring about the weather at the airport. The operations manager told the pilot the weather was pretty poor and gave him the most recent observation, which was a few hours old. The pilot requested a current observation, but before the operations manager could give it, another pilot departing the airport in a Cessna 421 gave a pilot report for the field. Dec. 21, Cordele, Ga. / Cessna Citation

At 21:30 EST, a Cessna 551 struck the ground following a missed approach to runway 10 at the Crisp County Airport, killing the pilot. The flight, which had originated in Dallas, was cleared for a localizer approach to runway 10. A witness near the airport stated that he heard the aircraft fly over but did not see it. The wreckage was found the next day in a heavily wooded area about 2 miles east of the airport. The aircraft impacted trees on a 113-degree heading at about 50 feet above the ground. The aircrafts descent through the trees was about 10 degrees down….

May 2, Orlando, Fla. / Cessna Citation

At 19:13 EDT, the right wing assembly of a Cessna 501 suffered damage when the airplane landed with the right main landing gear partially extended. The private pilot and his passenger were not injured. The pilot said he silenced the landing gear warning horn while en route then forgot to lower the gear before landing. Just prior to touch down the pilot attempted to lower the landing gear. The airplane touched down with the landing gear in transit, and the right landing gear collapsed….
