International Air Racing Series Takes Off

Air Race 1 begins next weekend in Tunisia.

Spanning three continents, the world’s only international multiple-airplane racing series, according to organizers, will premiere June 7, with stops in Africa, Europe and North America.

The Air Race 1 World Cup features formula one air racing teams from the United States and Europe, who will compete at speeds of up to 250 knots.

Taking off in Monastir, Tunisia, the Air Race 1 World Cup will be the first race of its class on the African continent. It will travel to Lledia, Spain on June 28, before wrapping up in Reno, Nevada on September 20. The final event will take place during the National Championship Air Races, where a trophy for formula air racing will be awarded to the overall winner.
