Garmin announced at EAA AirVenture it has received TSO certification for its G600 avionics suite, and has AML approval for some 785 aircraft models. At a suggested price of $29,995, the units began shipping on Monday. According to a company spokesman, a large benefit of the G600 is the two 6.5-inch displays-primary and multifunction displays-configured close together in the panel. Garmin also praises the sunlight readability of the system. Current options include chart view; weather; TIS; a wide selection of autopilot interface capability; selected flight director compatibility; and altitude preselect capture via an S-Tec 55X autopilot. At the press conference, Garmin displayed images of the G600 installed in a Cessna Cardinal, a dual installation in a Beech King Air, a retrofit installation in an early Cirrus single, and the Mooney on display here in Oshkosh.
