The FAA has announced that personal electronic devices (PEDs) are now permitted for use during all phases of flight, including takeoff and landing.
Passengers must keep cell phones in airplane mode with cellular service disabled, but Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are now allowed throughout the flight.
This decision is based on expert input confirming most commercial airplanes can handle radio interference from PEDs, though airlines must verify their specific fleet's tolerance before implementing the new guidelines.
