Senior Editor Stephen Pope yesterday presented staffers and volunteers from the Corporate Angel Network with a 2012 Flying Editors' Choice Award. CAN Executive Director Peter Fleiss accepted the award at the charity's headquarters at the Westchester Country Airport in White Plains, New York.

Since 1981 the Corporate Angel Network has arranged free flights aboard corporate jets for cancer patients traveling to treatment centers. The organization arranged its 43,000th flight on June 2. More than 500 U.S. companies donate seats on business aircraft for the cause.

The charity was co-founded by Dr. Leonard Greene, best known as the inventor of the stall warning device, stick shaker and more than 200 other inventions (most of them in aviation) and the creator in 1946 of Safe Flight Instrument Corp.
