A New York City tour helicopter made an emergency landing in the Hudson River on Sunday after apparently losing engine power. The pilot deployed the Bell 206’s floats and splashed down in the water as nearby boats raced to rescue the pilot and a family of four from Sweden. The helicopter was safely towed to shore by a fire department boat.
The New York Helicopter pilot had reportedly taken off from the Wall Street Heliport and circled Yankee Stadium before heading south on the Hudson River when the power loss occurred. After declaring an emergency with ATC, the pilot put the single-engine helicopter down in the water around 79th Street.
