The ultralong-range Gulfstream G650ER set another record last week when it flew non-stop from Singapore to Tucson, Arizona, in 15 hours, 23 minutes at an average speed of 597 mph over the 8,379 nm route. The G650 beat the previous speed record on this segment by 44 minutes and landed in Tucson with NBAA IFR reserve fuel on board.
Gulfstream said since the G650ER entered service in 2014, it has demonstrated both its real-world performance capabilities and exceptional comfort. Along with its sister aircraft, the G650, the G650ER has earned 90 speed records. In 2015, the G650ER flew 8,010 nm from Singapore to Las Vegas in 14 hours and 32 minutes. Then, in 2019, the G650ER flew 7,475 nm from Singapore to San Francisco in 13 hours and 37 minutes.
Because the speed for all records is determined by the great circle distance – for this flight 7,990 nm – the Singapore-Tucson city-pair record is pending approval by the National Aeronautic Association. The NAA simply divides the total Great Circle distance in statute miles by the total time between takeoff and touchdown for the record calculation. The actual distance flown by the Gulfstream G650ER was 8,379 nm.
