Garmin Cranks Up the Action with the VIRB 360 Camera

The VIRB 360 records fully-spherical 360 video in up to 5.7K resolution, while offering easy, one-click editing.

Garmin‘s new VIRB 360 action camera is sure to be a hit with everyone from pilots to thrill seekers when it is released next month. Billed as a “compact, rugged and fully spherical 360-degree camera,” the VIRB 360 records high quality video at 5.7K/30fps, while providing action junkies and outdoor photography enthusiasts the extremely convenient option to edit their work with one touch, and then upload and share with their friends, families, or even millions of social media followers.

In addition to the 360-degree camera’s ability to capture clear and even stunning images (seen above), the VIRB 360 includes four built-in microphones to ensure that viewers aren’t being deprived of exciting sounds. And for the underwater explorer, the VIRB 360 is waterproof to 33 feet.

For aviation enthusiasts, Garmin Pilot compatibility is expected in June, shortly after the camera is available for purchase. The device can connect to the D2 Bravo/D2 Bravo Titanium, Aera 660 and G3X Touch, allowing pilots to start and stop video recording with ease. The VIRB 360 is also Bluetooth compatible with the GMA 345, GMA 350c and GMA 245, eliminating the need for headset cables when recording audio. On top of that, the camera is Connext-capable, so pilots can use the G3X Touch flight display or Flight Stream 110/210/510 to overlay data like pitch, roll, lateral acceleration and more.

“The VIRB 360 lets you relive personal experiences and share them with your friends – from a different point of view, every single time,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “VIRB 360 owners will no longer need to worry about trying to capture the perfect angle or setting up the perfect shot. The camera’s easy-to-use feature set will make even the most inexperienced users look like experts.”

Producing the perfect action video and photographs is even easier with the free VIRB Mobile app, which allows both one-touch and voice-controlled editing options. The device also comes with desktop software. The suggested retail price for the VIRB 360 is $799.99.
