Just in time to help the tens of thousands of people around the U.S. who expect to see a drone beneath their Christmas tree comes word that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will again launch its free online course to teach new operators how to safely operate their drones once they pull them out of the box. The only hang up is the course doesn’t begin until January 22, 2018 and runs through February 4, 2018.

Called a MOOC, for Massive Open Online Course, class participants will learn about related drone equipment, airspace, legal requirements and flight planning tools, as well as how to step up to the next level and become commercial drone operators. Class instructors include full-time Embry-Riddle faculty members and experts from the unmanned aircraft systems industry.

The MOOC’s lead instructor, Dr. Kristy Kiernan said, “We are especially excited about the updates and changes we have made to reflect the most up-to-the-minute information in this rapidly changing part of aviation. Our students get the best academic experience, plus the benefit of contact with real-world challenges.”

Registration for the sUAS MOOC opened yesterday on the ERAU website.
