Yakima, Washington-based CubCrafters has pulled off what many would have thought would be an impossibility. The company has achieved certification for Garmin’s G3X glass panel, an EFIS designed for the experimental and LSA market, for installation in the Part 23-certified XCub, which was introduced last year with a basic avionics package. The G3X has been a popular option for the Carbon Cub, said CubCrafters’ president Randy Lervold.
Certified XCub Gets Garmin G3X Panel
Key Takeaways:
- CubCrafters achieved a pioneering certification for Garmin's G3X glass panel, previously for experimental aircraft, in their Part 23-certified XCub.
- This marks the first time the FAA has approved a full primary instrument cluster (non-TSO'd for this purpose) for installation in a Part 23 aircraft via a type certificate revision.
- The G3X suite significantly enhances the XCub's situational awareness and navigational capabilities, includes ADS-B Out and an optional autopilot, but the aircraft remains certified for VFR flight only.
